Governance & Regulatory Lawyer – Permanent Opportunity
Location: Leeds
Working Arrangement: Hybrid working – office attendance typically 1 day per week
Salary: £49,000 to £56,000 per annum
Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week)
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Governance & Regulatory Lawyer to join a dynamic and well-regarded in-house legal team within a major regional public body. This role offers exposure to a broad range of public law disciplines with a particular focus on employment law, litigation, regulatory and governance matters.
About the Role
Working within a well-regarded in-house team, you will provide advice across a broad portfolio of regulatory and governance matters. You’ll play a key role in ensuring legal compliance, supporting decision-making, and advising on complex legal issues that impact strategic projects across the region.
Areas of Work Include:
Employment law: contracts, TUPE, disciplinaries, redundancies, and organisational change Governance: committee arrangements, officer delegations, ethical standards, and constitutional matters Regulatory and compliance matters Litigation, including debt recovery and civil claims Information governance and data protection Equalities law and the Public Sector Equality Duty Devolution-related legal work and joint arrangements with other authoritiesAlthough the balance of work will be influenced by service needs, the team is committed to playing to individuals' strengths and offering opportunities to broaden experience.

Providing advice and drafting legal documentation across employment, governance and regulatory matters Supporting decision-making processes and ensuring legal and procedural compliance Working collaboratively across departments and supporting colleagues within the legal team Contributing to ongoing improvement of legal services and resilience through development and trainingAbout You
You will be a qualified solicitor, barrister or chartered legal executive entitled to practise in England and Wales. You may have a background in local government, the wider public sector, or relevant private practice experience.
We are especially keen to hear from candidates with strong employment law experience , but welcome applications from those with broader regulatory or litigation expertise and the desire to expand into other areas.
