Be part of a fast-paced, dynamic team - join the Students' Union team!

At The University of Law, we're looking for a Governance and Policy Coordinator to join our Students Union department on a permanent, part time basis. You will be pivotal in writing and implementing policy across all areas of the organisation, helping us prepare for a transition to becoming an independent students' union.

Please note: This is a part time position, working 21 hours (0.6 FTE) a week. We offer flexible working arrangements and are open to discussing how you would like to work the 21 hours a week, as long as the majority is worked Monday to Friday. There will also be requirement to travel to our Birmingham campus for in person meetings 2-3 days per year.

As our Governance and Policy Coordinator you will be:
  • Providing support for the governance and policy functions of the Students' Union, including advising the Governing Board and its sub-committees, setting the annual cycle of business and clerking meetings.
  • Supporting student officers in understanding and engaging with governance structures.
  • Monitoring policy developments and provide recommendations to ensure best practice governance.
  • Developing and enhancing governance structures, ensuring policies, procedures, and documentation remain compliant and effective.
  • Lead on the development on new policies and procedures, in-line with the SU's strategic plan, and ensure that policies and procedures follow a regular review cycle.
  • Working with the wider SU team to bring governance to the wider team, and making this accessible to students and staff.
  • Act as Secretary to the Governing Board and its sub-committees by preparing agendas and taking minutes.
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders within the University including but not limited to; campus deans, heads of operations, student info managers
Is this you?:

We are looking for an individual with a strong background in policy and governance, who enjoys researching, writing and applying the intricate details of policy. A background in students' unions is preferable but not a dealbreaker, however you will need to have a solid understanding of charity law.
  • Knowledge of Higher Education regulatory requirements
  • Previous work in a policy-based environment
  • Experience of project management for time sensitive and both short- and long-term projects
  • A keen interest in how policies and procedures enhance working practices
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and work to deadlines
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentialit
  • Experience of liaising with and speaking on behalf of others
