Opportunity at The Belfry

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Apprentice to join our Greenkeeping team at The Belfry, England’s leading Hotel and Resort. Our facilities include 320 bedrooms, Rosette-standard dining, five food and beverage outlets, and extensive leisure facilities such as 20 treatment rooms and a pool. We are renowned for golf, hosting The British Masters in August 2024, and are launching new training and development opportunities.

The Belfry, famous for hosting the Ryder Cup four times, boasts world-class golf courses that have created some of the sport’s most memorable moments. Our courses attract players from around the world seeking to relive Ryder Cup magic and improve their game with our state-of-the-art facilities.

Greenkeeping

The Greenkeeping team maintains all three golf courses and the surrounding landscape at the hotel and resort. Due to the high standards expected of our courses, we uphold strict quality and appearance standards to ensure our courses and team look exceptional.

The on-target earning potential for this role is £[amount] per hour, consisting of a base rate of £11 per hour plus estimated gratuities of £[amount] per hour.

About the apprenticeship

This is a 2-year apprenticeship within Greenkeeping, covering all aspects of the Greenkeeper role and leading to an NVQ Level 2 qualification, provided in partnership with a college specializing in land-based and sports industry education.

You will be expected to:

• Fully commit to the Greenkeeping apprenticeship and embrace all aspects of training and learning.
• Undertake general course maintenance daily under the supervision of the Deputy Head Greenkeeper to meet The Belfry’s standards.
• Perform bunker maintenance, including raking, edging, re-sanding, and debris clearance.
• Carry out mowing duties regularly, operating machinery safely and according to health and safety standards.
• Perform general mowing on greens, tees, fairways, and rough areas once competent.
• Participate in construction and course improvements as needed.
• Represent The Belfry professionally, adhering to high standards of guest service.
• Follow all health and safety procedures.

About you

We seek friendly, hardworking individuals passionate about their work who can operate independently and as part of a team. No formal experience is required, but the following qualities are desirable:

• Must not have completed a similar Level 2 qualification or higher.
• Desire to develop a career in Greenkeeping.
• Interest in outdoor work, gardening, nature, golf, or landscaping is advantageous.
• Motivated with a positive attitude and good customer service skills.
• Openness to feedback and learning.
• Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively.
