Job Description
Key Responsibilities of the Global Trade Compliance Manager will be;
- Provide expert guidance on trade compliance including denied parties screening, embargoes, sanctions, and import/export regulations.
- Review and approve transactions to ensure compliance with international trade laws.
- Manage and mentor a Trade Compliance Coordinator.
- Collaborate with manufacturing sites and subcontractors to enforce compliance controls for dual-use products.
- Oversee controlled technology transfers and contractual trade compliance language.
Policy and Procedure
- Develop, update, and maintain trade compliance policies and procedures.
- Manage the global trade compliance program and support internal compliance structures.
- Maintain the trade compliance SharePoint site and reporting tools.
Governance and Oversight
- Implement and maintain controls aligned with export control legislation (EU, USA, China).
- Conduct internal audits and compliance training programs.
- Present compliance data to senior management and monitor corrective action plans.
- Lead the trade compliance self-assessment program and follow up on actions.
Collaboration
- Work with trade compliance and legal teams to share best practices.
- Support the Corporate Legal team in future trade compliance strategies.
The Successful Applicant
A successful Global Trade Compliance Manager should have:
- A strong background in trade compliance, ideally within the industrial/manufacturing sector.
- Knowledge of international trade regulations and customs procedures.
- Proven experience in managing compliance within global supply chains.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Education and Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Trade Compliance Law, Legal field, or related discipline.
- Professional qualifications such as CIPS, CILT, or equivalent import/export certifications.
Experience
- Proven trade compliance experience at a managerial or senior level.
- Strong understanding of international import/export regulations, legal systems, and auditing.
- Experience with dual-use products and export control legislation compliance.
- Prior experience managing remote teams is advantageous.
Desirable
- Certifications like CUSECO, ITCC, CCLS, or Licensed Customs Broker Certificate.
- Knowledge of product classification in the drives industry.
This is a home based role with Global travel but can be based anywhere in England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales.
