Job summary

Swift Temps is recruiting for an experienced Service Technician to join a leading engineering company in Gloucestershire. You will assemble, set up, test, install and commission capital equipment for the lead-acid battery industry, travel internationally, and train operators and maintenance staff at global sites.

Ideal candidates will have a recognised engineering apprenticeship, strong fault-diagnosis skills, and the ability to read complex drawings and PLC-controlled systems.

Qualifications

• Completed a recognised Engineering Apprenticeship (ONC or HNC advantageous).
• Dual-skilled with machine assembly and fault diagnosis.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical assembly drawings.
• Ability to read and interpret pneumatic drawings and fault-find pneumatic circuits to component level.
• Understanding of electrical control circuits.
• Understanding of PLC-controlled machinery.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to apply practical solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal reporting abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assemble development and production machinery in line with technical drawings provided by Engineering.
• Modify parts and assemblies using hand and power tools including drills, band saws, and belt sanders.
• Apply experience and creativity to problem-solving during build and test phases.
• Set, test, and fault-find the full range of battery assembly equipment.
• Carry out final testing and assembly in preparation for inspection and despatch.
• Install and commission equipment at customer sites worldwide.
• Deliver training to customer operators and maintenance personnel, both at the company's facilities and overseas locations.
• Produce clear visit reports and technical recommendations following site work.
• Maintain accurate expense claims in line with company expense policies.
• Liaise closely with Sales, Production, Design, and Service teams.
• Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to other members of the service team.
• Complete all machine documentation accurately and on time.
• Identify opportunities for process, productivity, and quality improvements.
• Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
