A leading banking organisation is looking for a Senior Payroll Director to lead the existing team after a period of strong growth across EMEA and APAC. This role will be wide-ranging and focused on the timely delivery of payroll solutions to a complex and global business. It also offers a significant opportunity to impact the way the business operates, with empowerment to implement process changes.

Based in London (City), the role holder will be expected to be in the office 3 days a week, with some flexibility if required.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Oversee payroll teams across EMEA & APAC nearshore locations.
  2. Design and implement internal controls to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately, timely, and in compliance with international country and regional laws and regulations, supported by sufficient documentation.
  3. Oversee full-cycle Payroll and HR Operations processing for 21 countries in EMEA and APAC.
  4. Recruit and develop top talent who will be subject matter experts and points of contact for payroll inquiries.
  5. Engage and influence standards for practices and procedures of financial controls related to payroll activities.
  6. Review and develop control documentation for end-to-end payroll processes.
  7. Identify opportunities to improve operating procedures in line with regulatory and compliance guidelines to support audits.
  8. Determine strategies to minimise legal risks and impact on operations.
  9. Coach teams towards organisational objectives.
  10. Collaborate and influence professionals at all levels, including senior managers.
  11. Lead the team to achieve business objectives.
  12. Interact with internal and external customers.
  13. Manage resource allocation for payroll functions.
  14. Develop a culture of talent development aligned with business strategy.
  15. Manage a team of 10-15 FTE.

Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in International Payroll.
  • Management or leadership experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Many years of end-to-end experience in international Payroll, Payroll Tax, HR Operations, and audit.
  • Experience with Workday Payroll, ServiceNow, ADP Global View Payroll, and CloudPay Payroll.
  • Ability to motivate staff, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships quickly.
  • Excellent presentation, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage complex projects in a large enterprise environment.
  • Outstanding problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong change management skills, technological proficiency, systems thinking, and quality orientation.
  • Ability to make timely, independent decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Qualified Accountant (CPA/ACA or equivalent) is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, and Project).
