Job summary

BBVA is seeking a senior risk project lead in the UK to drive projects across valuation, market risk, and counterparty risk. You will define scope, governance, and staffing while ensuring timely delivery within a Global Markets context.

The role requires 8+ years in financial risk, experience with FRTB, and proficiency in Python and Murex, with Agile practices guiding delivery. A Master’s degree or FRM/CFA is highly valued, and strong English communication is essential.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional experience in the financial or banking sector.
  • Knowledge in valuation, market risk, counterparty risk, AVAs, XVAs.
  • Experience implementing FRTB regulation.
  • Experience implementing and enhancing corporate tools in Global Markets.
  • Programming experience in Python is highly valued.
  • Experience using the Murex platform.
  • Experience with Agile methodology.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary risk contact in conception, planning, design, execution, and implementation of projects.
  • Define project scope and governance structure to ensure success and approvals.
  • Understand project scope and impacts across risk dimensions including valuation and market risk.
  • Ensure staffing for the project in coordination with managers.
  • Develop and maintain the project plan and manage dependencies and critical path.
  • Participate in project monitoring and escalation of issues.

About the job:
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Act as the primary risk contact in the conception, planning, design, execution, and implementation of projects.
  • Define project scope from the outset, establishing the most suitable governance structure to ensure its success and securing the necessary approvals.
  • Understand the project scope and identify impacts across various risk dimensions, including valuation, market risk, counterparty risk, AVAs and XVAs, among others.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing for the project in coordination with relevant managers responsible for allocating resources.
  • Take responsibility for specific project-related actions and analyses when required.
  • Develop and maintain the project plan, manage unexpected events, dependencies, and define the critical path until completion.
  • Actively participate in project monitoring and execution committees, internally escalating relevant issues to discipline and/or process representatives.
Required Profile:
  • Studies in Engineering, Mathematics, Business Administration, or related.
  • Master’s Degree and/or FRM/CFA certifications highly valued.
Experience:
  • At least 8 years of professional experience in the financial or banking sector.
  • Knowledge and experience in various financial risk domains: valuation, sensitivities, market risk, counterparty risk, AVAs, XVAs.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in implementation of the Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB) regulation.
  • Proven experience in implementing and enhancing corporate tools within the Global Markets environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in programming, particularly Python, is highly valued.
  • Experience in the use of the Murex platform.
  • Experience using the Agile methodology.
Skills:
  • Ability to analyze and understand quantitative models and valuation tools.
  • Sound technical knowledge of capital market products and acquaintance with financial risk systems and trading platforms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Spanish and English. Spanish proficiency is not a must but a medium/high level acts as a plus to perform effectively in the role.
  • Ability to interact and negotiate with various stakeholders, including front-office teams, risk management, technology, and support functions.
  • Ability to work autonomously and proactively in a dynamic, constantly changing environment.
