Job summary

Newsweek seeks a Foreign Editor to lead international news and foreign affairs coverage from our UK-based digital newsroom, targeting a U.S. audience. This senior role combines editorial strategy, commissioning and hands-on editing to deliver high-impact journalism.

Reporting to the News Director, London Bureau, you will lead a team across London and New York, shaping daily priorities and coaching reporters to develop distinctive angles while embracing AI tools to improve performance.

Qualifications

• Extensive editing and reporting experience in international news.
• Proven experience managing journalists and driving performance.
• Strong editorial judgment and ability to identify distinctive angles.
• Ability to work with AI tools in editorial workflows.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of reporters and editors, providing regular coaching, feedback and performance management to improve output, quality and audience engagement.
• Set clear editorial objectives and hold team members accountable for meeting agreed production, audience and performance targets.
• Commission, edit and publish high-impact coverage of international news, geopolitics and national security.
• Drive original reporting, exclusives, interviews and enterprise journalism that differentiates Newsweek from competitors.
• Use audience data, analytics and market intelligence to inform coverage decisions and identify growth opportunities.
• Collaborate closely with the News Director and senior editors on editorial strategy, newsroom planning and special projects.
