Job summary

The University of Birmingham invites applications for a Communications Officer in External Relations. You will deliver multi-channel communications that raise the University's global profile and support its Global Top 50 ambitions for 2030.

Working with colleagues across Colleges and Professional Services, you will manage content creation, media engagement, events, and evaluation, building relationships with internal and external stakeholders while embracing flexible working where appropriate.

Qualifications

• Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in communications or closely related field.
• Experience in a Communications/Press/PR role; working with the media desirable in a large organisation.
• Proven news judgement and ability to weigh inputs for story merit.
• Proven ability to deliver multi-channel communications plans and events.
• Excellent writing ability and communication skills; able to translate complex info for diverse audiences.
• Digitally literate with CRM systems, CMS, social media platforms and reporting systems.
• Proven experience managing relationships across teams and with external stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel and work flexibly, including occasional evenings/weekends.

Responsibilities

• Deliver multi-channel communications activities and campaigns to raise the University’s profile and impact.
• Collaborate with the Communications centre of excellence, Colleges, and external partners to increase impact.
• Log activity in planning tools and contribute to news gathering and discussions.
• Work across public affairs, stakeholder engagement, corporate communications, and brand campaigns.
