Job summary

Fort Recruitment seeks a Service Engineer to support battery energy storage systems with full training provided. You will commission, maintain, troubleshoot, and perform corrective maintenance on BESS across the globe, with travel mainly in Europe and occasional worldwide assignments.

The role requires strong mechanical/electrical skills, problem-solving ability, and excellent communication to serve maritime clients and ensure system reliability. Valid driving licence essential.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical and/or electrical background.
• Willingness to travel internationally, primarily within Europe, with occasional worldwide assignments.
• Ability to undertake short service interventions (1–2 days) and longer assignments for commissioning and major projects.
• Excellent communication and a customer-oriented mindset.
• Practical hands-on experience valued; structured training provided by the company.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
• Valid driving licence and unrestricted travel.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
• Inspect battery racks, modules, BMS, power and communication wiring.
• Verify battery voltages, temperatures, and SOC.
• Perform BMS diagnostics, firmware updates, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Check alarms, event logs, and system health status.
• Inspect DC connections, torque terminals to spec, and verify insulation.
• Test communication between BMS, PCS, EMS.
• Carry out SOH verification and battery balancing when required.
• Verify operation of safety devices, breakers, contactors, fuses, E-stops, and cooling systems.
• Perform functional tests and confirm normal system operation.
• Document findings, corrective actions, and recommendations in service reports.
• Report any defects or safety concerns identified during interventions.
