A leading healthcare institution in Glasgow is seeking a part-time Optometrist to join their Ophthalmology Glaucoma Team. Responsibilities include managing glaucoma patients and conducting optometry clinics while supervising junior staff. The role requires a degree in Optometry, current GOC registration, and prior experience with glaucoma patients. Hours of work are: 22.5 hrs per week (Tues, Wed, Fri).

A unique part-time permanent opportunity has arisen for an Optometrist to join the Ophthalmology Glaucoma Team based in Greater Glasgow and Clyde. You will join the existing team of approx. 40 Optometrists who work in the 8 Ophthalmology departments across GG+C.
You will work within the Ophthalmology Glaucoma team across GG&C managing glaucoma patients. You will also be responsible for your own optometry led clinics in this area. We are looking for an optometrist with proven clinical experience in managing glaucoma patients. Candidates with the Independent Prescribing qualification and post graduate qualifications in glaucoma (prof cert glauc, higher certificate glauc, glauc diploma and/or NESGAT) or equivalent clinical experience are encouraged to apply.
You will also work within the paediatric clinic and you will have some managerial responsibilities including Turas appraisals of junior staff.
You may also work within the Optometry team in core clinics including adult refraction and low vision. These clinics provide support to specialist Optometry and Ophthalmology clinics.
You will have some clinical supervision responsibility for junior staff including Pre Registration Optometrists and Health Care Support Workers.
Your clinics will be on Tuesdays (morning at New Victoria Hospital and afternoon at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital), Wednesdays (morning at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and afternoon at Gartnavel General Hospital) and Fridays (morning at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and afternoon at Gartnavel General Hospital), however you may be required to work at other sites as the role/service develops.
Staff and clinic rotations may provide future opportunities to work within other core Optometry clinics as well as development into other extended roles within Ophthalmology.
Previous clinical experience in glaucoma is a pre-requisite. Ongoing comprehensive training will be provided to the successful candidate. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone looking to further their career working within the Hospital Eye Service environment.
Evidence of good communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently yet also within a team and the ability to prioritise work load using effective time management skills are desirable.
You must have a Degree in Optometry and hold current General Optical Council registration.
The post involves cross-site working and you may be required to cover clinics across other sites therefore the willingness to travel is essential.
