Job summary

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust in Southend-on-Sea is seeking a Glaucoma Clinical Nurse Specialist to lead nurse-led glaucoma care across sites. You will assess, monitor, and manage patients with glaucoma and ocular hypertension, providing expert nursing leadership within Ophthalmology and ensuring safe, patient-centered pathways.

Qualifications

• Registered with NMC (Level 1) with current registration.
• Independent Non-Medical Prescribing qualification (or willingness to undertake).
• Significant post-registration Ophthalmology experience.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Be conversant with Trust policies, procedures and glaucoma guidelines.
• Act as a clinical expert within the Glaucoma Service, supporting service improvement.
• Undertake comprehensive patient assessment, monitoring and review.
• Ensure patients are managed within clinical timescales and national targets.
• Provide clear information, education and support to patients and families.
• Work autonomously within scope of practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care.
• Initiate referrals to consultants, optometrists and MDT members.
• Supply and/or administer medications per PGDs or local policies.
• Provide advice on diagnostic tests, treatment options and procedures.
