Manchester Metropolitan University seeks a project-based research support role in the NW England Processional Mapping initiative. The role focuses on data collection, GIS mapping, and spatial analysis to support research outputs and public engagement.

You will build datasets, produce maps, and help disseminate findings through reports and presentations, liaising with internal teams and external partners. Hybrid working options are available in the UK.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate degree or substantial relevant experience, with evidence of continuous professional development.
• Ability to synthesise complex data from different sources and communicate findings to diverse audiences.
• Use initiative, creativity and judgement to develop approaches for research and scholarly activities.
• Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro or similar GIS software to visualise data and perform spatial analysis for public audiences.
• Breadth or depth of spatial analysis knowledge to work within established research programmes.
• Experience contributing independently to projects and preparing written reports.
• Experience in data collection and prioritising work to deliver team objectives.

Responsabilités

• Build and extend a database of historical and contemporary processions, parades, pilgrimages and other processional practices.
• Create GIS layers representing start and end points and integrate spatial data from multiple sources.
• Produce high-quality maps and visualisations for research outputs, presentations and public engagement.
• Conduct spatial analyses of procession routes using ArcGIS Pro or similar software.
• Analyse relationships between processions, urban morphology, public space and transport networks.
• Plan and prioritise daily work and lead small teams of research assistants or students as needed.
• Present findings to internal/external groups and write up results for reports and dissemination.
