Job Description

About Us

Connect2Kent provides a managed service across all sectors providing temporary, contract and interim opportunities into Kent County Council. Our service is built on our values of ethical, trustworthy, and caring, and our profits are returned to our Local Authority shareholders.

About the Role - GIS Data Editor

The use of GIS and specialist databases and systems are essential for the effective delivery of the Public Rights of Way & Access function. The use of technology benefits all key elements of the Service - legal definition, maintenance, promotion and development.

Key to the Service is the provision of quality information. The Service is currently delivering an Active Travel England funded project looking at the fragmentation of the public rights of way network available to equestrians and cyclists.

You will assist in capturing information during the second phase of the project. This is a desk-based assessment of on-road 'connecting' links to help identify where improvements to these links can be made. This will ultimately help to inform a follow-on program of prioritisation and future actions.

What is the day-to-day of the role:

  1. Follow an established methodology and reference Google Maps Street view, and additional data sets, to carry out a desk-based assessment of linear routes.
  2. To edit GIS data, capturing attributes, using ESRI ArcGIS software.
  3. To carry out work to a high quality to ensure accuracy and integrity of the data.
  4. To work to strict deadlines and targets to ensure that the project is delivered on time and budget.

Skills & Experience

  1. Qualification or experience in geographical information systems (GIS), cartography, I.T, geography, or other relevant subject.
  2. Highly computer literate, particularly in a GIS environment.
  3. Experience of GIS data capture and use of standard GIS editing tools.
  4. Ability to interpret maps of different scales.
  5. Proven ability to focus on tasks to ensure a consistent quality of work output.
  6. Desirable: Knowledge of public rights of way, countryside access, or highways mapping.

Benefits

  • No weekend working
