A local government office in Derby seeks a detail-focused GIS Analyst to manage and maintain address datasets. You will be responsible for cleansing and updating data to ensure accuracy, liaising with various departments while supporting improvements to address-related processes. This position offers flexible working options and opportunities for professional development.
Job description
Help shape the quality of Derby’s address and street information. Are you methodical, detail-focused, and confident working with structured data, with a good grasp of structure and logic? We’re looking for someone to take responsibility for Derby’s official address and street datasets – the Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG) and Local Street Gazetteer (LSG). These national datasets underpin everything from emergency response to waste management, and keeping them up-to-date and accurate is essential. Although the job title is "GIS Analyst", this particular post is Gazetteer-focused – it is not a GIS mapping or spatial analysis role. You will work alongside GIS colleagues, but your primary responsibility will be structured address and street data.
You’ll manage the maintenance and regular publication of our LLPG and LSG datasets, ensuring they meet national standards and support key services across the council. This includes:
You’ll also support improvements to address-related processes across the organisation and help ensure our data is aligned with other key systems.
We welcome applicants with direct gazetteer experience – but we also encourage those with transferable skills from other domains to apply. You might have worked in planning, highways, data administration, or another role where accuracy and structure are critical. You should be able to demonstrate:
Familiarity with address systems, gazetteers, or standards such as the Data Cooperation Agreement would be an advantage but is not essential.
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. You must already have the legal right to work in the UK on a permanent and unrestricted basis. This includes UK citizens, those with indefinite leave to remain, and those with settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme.
Here at Derby City Council, we’re dedicated to delivering nearly 250 first-class services to citizens and businesses in the heart of the Midlands. People are at the centre of all that we do, and we have an outstanding track record of recruiting and developing talented individuals by providing them with varied and fulfilling career opportunities. You too could be part of something brilliant by becoming a colleague at Derby City Council; in addition to making a difference to the lives of people across the city, you’ll also receive:
