Job Description

Job Purpose

To support the Chair and Committee in charge of the Lord Gifford endowment in the planning and hosting of Gifford Lectures and related events.

To clerk regular committee meetings, compose minutes, and circulate agenda and papers for discussion.

To maintain the committee website and other communication platforms.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

  1. Clerk regular committee meetings (set up Doodle polls; confirm dates; compile and circulate minutes, agenda, financial reports, and all relevant papers as appropriate).
  2. Maintain the Glasgow Gifford Lectures website, social media and other online presence as appropriate.
  3. Provide full administrative support to the Chair and Committee members in the planning and hosting of Gifford Lectures-related events.
  4. Liaise with the School’s Operations and Finance team, and any relevant colleagues within and outwith the School, including the University’s media and communications team, the IT, Audio-Visual and Print Units and the University’s travel management team, in delivering the tasks assigned by the Committee in support of its regular business and the hosting of Gifford Lectures-related events.
  5. Liaise with Gifford speakers/guests as appropriate and on the instructions of the Chair/committee members in planning and hosting related events, and in following up on any outstanding issues related to expenses and/or payment of an honorarium.
Knowledge/Qualifications

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential

A1 Undergraduate degree or Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 (Advanced Higher / Scottish Vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate) or equivalent.

Desirable

B1 Knowledge/experience of organising seminar or lecture series or cognate academic events (e.g. conference, symposium).

B2 Postgraduate degree in academic field cognate to the remit of the Gifford bequest.

B3 Up-to-date knowledge of an academic field cognate to the remit of the Gifford bequest.

Skills

C1 Proven interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

C2 Effective planning, organising and prioritising skills.

C3 Good analytical and problem solving skills.

C4 Excellent attention to detail and sound numeracy skills.

C5 Strong IT skills, including Excel and Word.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 5, £26,338 - £30,805 per annum pro rata.

This post is part-time (a minimum of 60 hours per year, with an average of 1 hour per week), and open-ended (permanent).
