Qualifications

Job Description

Role: German Teacher

Purpose of the job

To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for German students. To carry out all duties and responsibilities of a teacher as outlined in the current conditions of employment including:

  1. To maintain the positive ethos and promote the values of the school.
  2. To plan and deliver effective lessons which deliver good progress and achievement for all pupils.
  3. To be responsible for the pastoral wellbeing of pupils.
  4. To build positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents and governors which support the work of the school.
  5. To play a significant role in the life of the school and contribute to whole school development.
  6. To provide a model of good practice for aspects of teaching and learning.

Teaching and learning

  1. To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students.
  2. To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential.
  3. To contribute to maximizing of student attainment.
  4. To share and support the school’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth.

Planning

  1. To assist in the development of appropriate schemes of work towards selected modern German syllabuses. To develop teaching resources, schemes of work, marking policies and teaching strategies in the curriculum area.
  2. To contribute to the curriculum area and department’s development plan and its implementation.
  3. To ensure department documentation and practice in relation to Health and Safety is in place and adhered to.
  4. To assist in the process of curriculum development in German so as to ensure the continued relevance to the needs of students, examining and awarding bodies and the school’s ethos.
  5. To ensure that the equipment is in good working order and suitable for teaching use.

General Duties

  1. Participate in relevant meetings with colleagues, parents and be involved in links with external agencies as part of curriculum enhancement, including extra-curricular activities and off-site visits.
  2. Support other members of the curriculum area and students as appropriate.
  3. Review your own professional development and maintain professional standards.
  4. Carry out any other such duties as the post holder may reasonably be required to do.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  1. GCSE Maths A*-C (or equivalent).
  2. GCSE English A*-C (or equivalent).
  3. Educated to degree level.
  4. Qualified teacher status either in the UK (or international equivalent) and Steiner Waldorf Teacher qualification.

Experience

  1. Fluent German Speaker.
  2. Experience with (or openness to) teaching the Steiner Waldorf curriculum.

Professional Knowledge and Understanding

  1. An understanding of curriculum and pedagogical issues relating to learning and teaching.
  2. Knowledge of effective strategies to include, and meet the needs of, all pupils.
  3. Familiarity with writing and delivering effective Individual Education Plans for pupils with SEN.

Professional Skills and Abilities

  1. A teacher with sound ICT knowledge and skills relating to the class teaching, able to demonstrate the effective use of ICT to enhance the learning and teaching.
  2. Must be able to plan lessons for all the pupils in a class, setting clear learning intentions and differentiated tasks.
  3. Must be able to keep records of pupil progress in line with school policy.
  4. Must be able to use assessments of pupils learning to inform future planning.
  5. Ability to plan and work collaboratively with colleagues.

Personal Qualities

  1. A teacher with a flexible approach to work who enjoys being a good team member.
  2. Must have good communication skills both orally and in writing.
  3. Must be able to manage own work load effectively.
  4. Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to enthuse and motivate others and develop effective partnerships.
  5. Willingness to share expertise, skills and knowledge and ability to encourage others to follow suit.

  7. To maintain a personal commitment to professional development linked to the competencies necessary to deliver the requirements of this post.
