Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Specialty Doctor in Older People’s Medicine to work across OPM wards and AMU, with focus on geriatric care and acute illnesses. The role involves reviewing patients, supervising juniors, and ensuring high-quality discharge planning.

The post offers the opportunity to engage in governance, audits, and ongoing education within a teaching hospital linked to UEA and Norwich Research Park.

Qualifications

• Experience in geriatric medicine or older people care.
• Ability to supervise junior medical colleagues.
• Proficiency in documenting patient records and discharge letters.

Responsibilities

• Work across the OPM wards, OPM outliers and post take ward rounds of OPM Patients in AMU.
• Ensure patients are assessed and reviewed on the OPM wards, which may be part of the consultant ward round or may be an individual ward round.
• Communicate with patients' relatives.
• Supervise more junior medical colleagues.
• Keep accurate patient records as required; these must be dated, timed and signed off appropriately and be easily identifiable.
• Produce timely discharge letters, with accurate and comprehensive diagnoses, and supervise their production by more junior colleagues.
• Participate in the management of occasional emergencies and in unforeseen circumstances at the request of an appropriate Consultant.
• Agree to read and follow medical guidelines and policies.
• Take part in Clinical Governance activity, including Clinical Audit.
• Attend training and education sessions, regularly in the department.
