Job summary

RSK Group Ltd is seeking a Geotechnical Laboratory Technician for their UKAS accredited soil and materials laboratory in Washington, UK. The role requires previous lab experience and attention to safety and accuracy.

The successful candidate will perform tests on soil, rock and aggregate samples, assist calibration of equipment, and maintain a clean lab. Salary and benefits reflect experience and responsibilities.

Qualifications

• 5+ GCSEs including English, Maths and Science.
• Previous experience in geotechnical or materials testing lab.
• Good numeracy and literacy: able to write clearly and accurately.
• Good IT skills, especially MS Excel.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of physical tests on soil, rock and aggregate samples to high safety and quality standards.
• Develop understanding of test methods used and why samples are tested.
• Assist calibration and maintenance of all technical equipment.
• Maintain a clean and orderly laboratory environment.
• Ensure the quality of work is high and tested in a timely manner.
• Handle sample receipt, storage and disposal.

Ian Farmer Associates (1998) Ltd, a member of RSK Group Ltd, is a geotechnical ground investigation company. Due to recent expansion and increasing workload an exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Geotechnical Laboratory Technician to join the team in the UKAS accredited geotechnical soil and materials laboratory based in Washington, UK.

Suitable candidates will need to be able to demonstrate previous laboratory experience in this field.

Key roles and responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities associated with this position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Performing a variety of physical tests on soil, rock and aggregate samples to the highest level of safety and quality standards.
• Develop an understanding of the test methods and why samples are tested.
• Assisting in the calibration and maintenance of all technical equipment.
• Maintaining a clean and orderly laboratory environment.
• Ensuring the quality of work produced is to high standards and tested in a timely manner.
• Sample receipt, storage and disposal.

Required experience:

• 5+ GCSEs including English, Maths and Science.
• Previous experience in a geotechnical or materials testing lab.
• Good numeracy and literacy: able to write clearly and accurately.
• Good IT skills, especially the use of MS Excel.

There will be lots of manual handling involved in the role and will require moving heavy items on a frequent basis.
