We are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer, to join our growing team at MEC. This role can be based out of our offices in either Birmingham, Nottingham or Leicester.

Requirements
Key Responsibilities include:
- Manage projects across a range of residential, commercial, and public sector developments, ensuring delivery to company standards.
- Design and analyse shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, slopes, ground improvement schemes and earthworks operations.
- Undertake desk studies, intrusive ground investigations, verification reporting, and geotechnical design work.
- Produce and deliver high-quality technical outputs including reports, drawings, models, and calculations within agreed deadlines and budgets.
- Liaise effectively with clients, colleagues, and statutory authorities such as Planning, Highway, Drainage Authorities, and NHBC to ensure efficient project progression.
- Support the Associate Director and Senior Engineers with business operations, productivity, and growth objectives.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop junior team members, including structured training for apprentices and graduates.
- Maintain and develop departmental standards, systems, and procedures.
- Undertake site visits, inspections, and supervision of investigation works, including travel across the UK when required.
- Contribute to business development by maintaining strong client relationships and identifying new opportunities.
- Follow a structured programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD), achieving a minimum of 12 days per year.
Key Skills, experience & Attributes:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Geo-Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline.
- Masters degree in geotechnical engineering, engineering geology or related discipline preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years proven experience in geotechnical site investigation, analysis, and technical reporting.
- Professional membership (or working towards) with The Geological Society, ICE, or similar professional body.
- Strong knowledge of geotechnical and soil properties, bearing pressure and settlement calculation, slope stability analysis and retaining wall design. Experience of contamination assessment and site remediation techniques beneficial.
- Competent in exploratory hole logging and sampling, with an understanding of ground investigation equipment and procedures.
- Familiar with current legislation, regulations, NHBC Standards, and best practice guidance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with confidence in client-facing situations.
- Organised and methodical, with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and commercially aware, with a genuine interest in contributing to company growth.
- Full, clean UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use.
- A strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental best practice, and participation in the company’s positive safety culture.
