Job summary

Langan is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join its London team. The role involves planning and executing field investigations, monitoring earthwork construction, and preparing logs and reports for large-scale projects across the UK.

You will analyze geotechnical problems, contribute to reports, and support project delivery with the Technical Directors and Associates. A strong field orientation and UK GI knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (required).
• 3+ years of work-related experience.
• Strong knowledge of UK ground conditions and GI practices.
• Wide range of geotechnical engineering/engineering geology skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Willingness to spend majority of time in the field.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute field investigations, including logging borings and test pits, collecting samples and data.
• Observe foundation and earthwork construction activities and ensure conformance with plans.
• Identify and implement field/lab solutions to problems.
• Prepare logs, field forms, and chain of custody records.
• Prepare and review technical reports and design documents.
• Support Directors in project delivery and client satisfaction.
• Attend meetings and contribute ideas; assist in fee bids/proposals.
• Document issues with a supervisor and perform other duties as needed.

Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join its collaborative team in London, UK. This individual will serve a key function in providing the planning and execution of field investigations, monitoring foundation and earthwork construction, identifying and implementing field and lab work solutions, and preparing logs and reports. In this role, you will have the opportunity to analyze geotechnical engineering problems, and assist in preparation of geotechnical engineering reports on large-scale and high-profile projects.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist with the planning and execution of field investigations, including logging borings and test pits, collecting samples, performing field tests, and collecting and recording data;
• Observe foundation and earthwork construction activities; monitors conformance with the construction documents;
• Identify and implement solutions to both routine and complex field and/or laboratory problems;
• Prepare standard logs and field forms, including drilling and test pit logs, field investigation dailies, and chain of custody logs;
• Conduct file reviews, site reconnaissance, and document searches;
• Preparing, checking and reviewing a wide range of technical reports including Desk Studies, Interpretative reports, specifications, and Design reports;
• Close support to our Technical Directors and Associates in project delivery, work winning and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction;
• Active input to team and client meetings, being prepared to own decisions and put forward alternative ideas and concepts;
• Prepare fee bids and proposals for internal and external clients;
• Accurately document and communicate with supervisor on any problems encountered on project sites; and
• Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering required; Master’s degree with Geotechnical specialty or desire to pursue is preferred;
• 3+ years of work-related experience;
• A strong working knowledge of UK ground conditions and ground investigation practices;
• A wide range of experience, knowledge, and skills in geotechnical engineering and/or engineering geology;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
• Willingness to spend the majority of work hours in the field;
• Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment; and
• Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits across the UK and a valid driver’s license in good standing.
