Job summary

Penguin Recruitment Ltd in Norfolk is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join its expanding team. The role covers ground investigation and geotechnical engineering across residential, commercial, infrastructure and development sectors, with both fieldwork and office responsibilities.

The successful candidate will contribute to site investigation data collection, technical analysis, reporting and project delivery, with strong career progression in a dynamic, technically driven environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• Understanding of ground investigation techniques and geotechnical assessment methodologies.
• Knowledge of current geotechnical standards and industry best practice.
• Strong report writing and communication skills.
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Commercial awareness and proactive project delivery.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Undertake and supervise ground investigations on a variety of development and infrastructure projects.
• Coordinate site activities and ensure investigations are completed to the required technical standards.
• Log soil and rock samples in accordance with current industry guidance and standards.
• Prepare factual and interpretative geotechnical reports.
• Assist with foundation assessments, slope stability evaluations, and geotechnical risk assessments.
• Support Phase I and Phase II site investigations where required.
• Manage subcontractors, drilling contractors, and site operations.
• Monitor project progress to ensure delivery within agreed timescales and budgets.
• Maintain accurate technical records and project documentation.
• Liaise effectively with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality management procedures.

Requirements

• Previous experience working within a geotechnical, engineering geology, or geo-environmental consultancy environment.
• Good understanding of ground investigation techniques and geotechnical assessment methodologies.
• Degree qualified in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Knowledge of current geotechnical standards, regulations, and industry best practice.
• Strong report writing and technical communication skills.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to project delivery.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
