Job description

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

In support of our journey towards becoming a recognised global leader in offshore wind, Arup has an opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our established and growing offshore wind ground engineering team in London. Our team delivers geoscience and ground engineering projects for clients across the offshore wind sector, with a focus on marine site characterisation and the design of offshore wind foundations.

As a centre of excellence within Arup for offshore wind engineering, our highly skilled UK team supports projects across the globe, working with major developers, collaborating with technical specialists across disciplines, and partnering closely with research institutions.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to join a growing, high-performing team applying your geotechnical expertise to some of the most challenging and exciting offshore wind projects in the sector. You will contribute to the interpretation of ground investigation data, support geotechnical design for fixed and floating offshore wind foundations, and help deliver innovative, sustainable and technically robust solutions for our clients.

This is a client-facing role where understanding our clients’ objectives will be key to your success. You will work as part of multidisciplinary project teams, collaborating with colleagues across geotechnics, structural engineering, offshore engineering, numerical modelling and sustainability to deliver high-quality outcomes.

You will also have the opportunity to develop your technical skills, broaden your offshore wind experience and contribute to Arup’s continued growth in this rapidly evolving market. In return, with our depth of knowledge and breadth of expertise, we can support you in developing a meaningful and rewarding career in offshore wind and ground engineering.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for people who:

  • Have experience in geotechnical design for fixed and/or floating offshore wind foundations, or relevant academic experience through appropriate university modules.
  • Can interpret ground investigations, laboratory testing and in-situ test results, including basic, advanced and cyclic testing.
  • Bring an understanding of offshore wind design codes, constitutive models and the calibration of models against laboratory or real-world data.
  • Have experience or interest in numerical modelling software such as LS-DYNA or PLAXIS, particularly for soil-structure interaction and cyclic loading effects.
  • Are collaborative, adaptable and effective when working with clients and multidisciplinary teams, with coding skills such as Python and a relevant postgraduate qualification being advantageous.

***Unfortunately, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK at the time of application and for the duration of employment. Any offer made will be subject to satisfactory proof of immigration status.***
