Job Description

Mott MacDonald Bentley is recruiting for a Geotechnical Discipline Lead to join the Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA).

The 330km SPA Project by Anglian Water is under construction and will be completed during AMP8. Additionally, there are further water transfer pipelines and infrastructure to be delivered in AMP8.

Location: Flexible/Hybrid work from Peterborough office and home

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Role Overview:

You will lead the geotechnical input for the SPA framework, supporting engineering geology and geotechnical engineering activities. Your responsibilities include supporting the SPA programme, investigation works, and completing design activities to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally sound construction. You will be the primary point of contact within SPA for geotechnical issues, overseeing specifications, coordinating outputs, and supporting temporary works discussions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the geotechnical team to develop value-driven solutions aligned with capital investment outcomes.
  2. Maintain quality standards for geotechnical design through procedures, standards, and guidance.
  3. Ensure procedures comply with CDM regulations.
  4. Collaborate with SPA partners and supply chain to ensure adequate resourcing.
  5. Manage and mentor the geotechnical team.
  6. Ensure investigations provide value and produce usable outputs for design and specifications.
  7. Communicate ground risks effectively to non-specialists.
  8. Work with other SPA teams to meet project delivery requirements.

Candidate Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in a related subject.
  • Experience in delivering geotechnical engineering outputs supporting detailed design.
  • Experience in a design and build environment, including temporary works design.
  • Ability to communicate technical requirements clearly.
  • Resilience, adaptability, and independence in operation.
