GEOSPATIAL DATA SCIENTIST ROLE (Junior & Senior)

Overview:

BirdsEyeView is an InsurTech venture based in London. We develop Natural Catastrophe Modelling software for reinsurance and insurers worldwide. Our software helps model floods, wildfires, cyclones, and more.

Our technology includes climate data infrastructure, scalable product development, and machine learning data processing, aiding underwriters in assessing climate-related risks.

About the role:

You will support the development of Natural Peril models for our WEATHER ANALYTIX platform, which provides climate and weather analytics to insurance partners.

You will join a small team of scientists, developers, and insurance experts, influencing various aspects of the business, including product development and business applications.

This role is ideal for someone interested in large climate and geospatial data, new technologies, and the insurance industry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the strategy and implementation of the WEATHER ANALYTIX platform.
• Process meteorological datasets, including those from the European Space Agency.
• Work on models for wildfires, hurricanes, tornados, lightning, earthquakes, and floods.
• Collaborate with Business Development to define and deliver new products.
• Select and implement suitable technology solutions.
• Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; a Master's is preferred.
• Experience: 2+ years for Junior/Mid roles, 4+ years for Mid/Senior roles.
• Proficiency in Python, experience with large geospatial datasets, knowledge of statistical and data science techniques, understanding of web systems architecture, and strong autonomous work skills.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with JIRA, Confluence, GitLab, AWS.
• Experience with ERA5/Climate Data, MLOps, and knowledge of the insurance market.
