GEOSPATIAL DATA SCIENTIST ROLE (Junior & Senior)

Overview:

BirdsEyeView is an InsurTech venture based in London. They build Natural Catastrophe Modelling software for reinsurance and insurers worldwide. The software models floods, wildfires, cyclones, and more.

Their technology includes climate data infrastructure, scalable development, and machine learning data processing. They help underwriters assess risks related to climate change-induced natural disasters.

About the role

You will support the development of the Natural Peril platform within BirdsEyeView’s WEATHER ANALYTIX system. This platform offers climate and weather analytics for insurance partners to assess their risks and improve underwriting.

You will work with a team of scientists, developers, and insurance experts, impacting business applications and product development. This position is ideal for someone interested in climate data, new technologies, and the insurance industry.

This role offers growth opportunities and involvement in various business areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the strategy and implementation of the WEATHER ANALYTIX platform.
  • Process meteorological data with partnerships like the European Space Agency.
  • Develop models for wildfire, hurricane, tornado, lightning, earthquake, and flood risks globally.
  • Collaborate with Business Development to create new products and features.
  • Select and implement suitable technology solutions.
  • Qualifications include a degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, or related fields; Master's preferred.
  • Experience: 2+ years for Junior/Mid roles, 4+ years for Mid/Senior roles.
  • Proficiency in Python, experience with large geospatial datasets, knowledge of data science techniques, understanding of web architecture, and ability to work independently are required.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with JIRA, Confluence, GitLab, AWS
  • Experience with ERA5/Climate Data
  • Experience with MLOps
  • Knowledge of the Insurance Market

Compensation:
