Geospatial Data Scientist Role (Junior & Senior)

Overview:

BirdsEyeView is an InsurTech venture based in London that develops Natural Catastrophe Modelling software for reinsurance and insurers globally. The software helps model floods, wildfires, cyclones, and more.

The company's technology includes climate data infrastructure, scalable development, and machine learning for data cleansing and ingestion, aiding underwriters in assessing climate-related risks.

About the role

You will support the development of Natural Peril models for the WEATHER ANALYTIX platform, which provides climate analytics to insurance partners to assess exposure and improve underwriting.

You will join a team of scientists, developers, and insurance experts, influencing business applications and product development. This role is ideal for those interested in climate and geospatial data, technology development, and the insurance industry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the WEATHER ANALYTIX platform strategy and implementation.
• Process meteorological datasets, including data from the European Space Agency.
• Develop models for wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, lightning, earthquakes, and floods.
• Collaborate with Business Development on new products and enhancements.
• Select and implement suitable technology solutions.
• Qualifications include a degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, or related fields; Master's preferred.
• Experience: 2+ years for Junior/Mid, 4+ years for Mid/Senior roles.
• Proficiency in Python, experience with large geospatial datasets, knowledge of data science techniques, understanding of web architecture, and ability to work independently.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with JIRA, Confluence, GitLab, AWS
• Experience with ERA5/Climate Data
• Experience with MLOps
• Knowledge of the Insurance Market
