Job summary

The Crown Estate is seeking a Geospatial Analyst to provide spatial data, analysis and mapping services across its diverse portfolio. The role requires interpreting geospatial data to support decision-making, asset management and property transactions, using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, FME and Databricks in an Azure data platform.

Qualifications

  • Experience using GIS to manage, analyse and present spatial data.
  • Experience producing mapping products, spatial analysis and visualisations.
  • Strong knowledge of ArcGIS Pro (or equivalent).
  • Understand metadata, projections and coordinate systems.
  • Able to communicate technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Collaborative, takes initiative and solves problems.

  • Support self-service GIS delivery and development of GIS systems.

Purpose of Role: The Crown Estate manages one of the UK's most diverse property portfolios, spanning rural land, urban developments, marine assets, renewable energy infrastructure and natural environments. Our geospatial capability plays a critical role in supporting strategic decision-making, operational activities and long‑term stewardship of these assets.

Purpose of Role: The Crown Estate manages one of the UK's most diverse property portfolios, spanning rural land, urban developments, marine assets, renewable energy infrastructure and natural environments. Our geospatial capability plays a critical role in supporting strategic decision‑making, operational activities and long‑term stewardship of these assets.


The Geospatial Analyst provides spatial data, analysis and mapping services that enable informed decision‐making across The Crown Estate's diverse portfolio. The role will be expected to use problem‑solving skills to interpret geospatial data and provide spatial analytical insight and visualisation to support strategic decision‑making, property transactions, asset management and legal activities across the business. Our geospatial technology stack includes ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, FME and Databricks, hosted in an Azure based data platform.


Working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners and stakeholders, the Geospatial Analyst ensures the effective management of spatial data, promotes best practice in geospatial and contributes to the continuous improvement of GIS tools, processes and services across the business.


The role will be expected to identify opportunities to improve geospatial services through automation, process improvement and the adoption of new technologies to future‑proof GIS workflows as well as other future business objectives.


Context of opportunity / Main accountabilities:


  • Deliver geospatial analysis, mapping and spatial insight to support various business priorities and decision‑making and transactional activities across the business.

  • Undertake proximity checks to identify the spatial implications of proposed new developments on existing assets and external obligations.

  • Maintain accurate geospatial datasets through its entire life cycle, ensuring data quality, currency and governance standards are met and adhered to.

  • Produce maps, plans, visualisations and other spatial outputs that meet business and legal requirements.

  • Be accountable for the management and tracking of business requests, ensuring all tasks are recorded through the teams central logging system and delivered to agreed geospatial quality standards and timescales.

  • Build effective relationships with colleagues and external partners and stakeholders.

  • Identify opportunities to automate processes and improve GIS service delivery.

  • Support the transition of the GIS business unit and stakeholder community to a self‑service delivery model wherever possible through use of appropriate GI tools and datasets

  • Support the development, testing, and enhancement of GIS systems and applications.


Most important skills based requirements:


  • Experience using GIS to manage, analyse and present spatial data.

  • Experience producing various types of mapping products, spatial analysis, and data visualisations.

  • Strong working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro (or equivalent enterprise software).

  • Understanding spatial data management principles and its real‑world application, including metadata, projections and coordinate systems.

  • Ability to communicate technical information to a variety of technical and non‑technical audiences.

  • Is able to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders, take ownership of work, demonstrate initiative and problem‑solving skills and communicate openly and professionally.


Non‑Essential skills:


  • BSc or MSc in Geographic Information Science or related field

  • Experience with Python, FME or similar GIS automation tools.

  • Experience with ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise to build web apps and dashboards etc.

  • Knowledge of land, rural, urban, marine, environmental, or energy sectors.
