Job summary

AECOM in Nottingham is seeking an enthusiastic Geoscience Apprentice to join the ASSIST team. You’ll gain hands-on experience across geoscience, geotechnical and rail-related surveys, supporting safe, sustainable infrastructure across the UK.

You will work alongside geologists, geophysicists, surveyors and engineers, progressing from data collection to interpretation and reporting while developing field, mapping and data analysis skills in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above, including Maths, English, and a science subject.
• Three A-Levels (or equivalent) at grade B or above, preferably including a science subject.
• Genuine interest in geology, earth sciences, infrastructure, or site survey work.
• Some fieldwork or work shadowing experience preferred.
• Interest in digital tools, mapping software, or data analysis techniques.
• Strong attention to detail, organisation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
• Full UK driving licence (for manual vehicles).
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Support ground investigations and geoscience surveys, collecting geological, geophysical, and geotechnical data.
• Assist in interpreting data to understand ground conditions and identify geohazards.
• Learn to use field equipment and mapping/digital tools for analysis.
• Prepare technical reports, drawings and client documentation.
• Participate in site visits and data gathering across various locations.
• Collaborate with survey and engineering teams for integrated project delivery.
• Contribute to sustainability and safety initiatives throughout projects.
