Job summary

Headland Archaeology is recruiting a Geophysics Manager to lead commercial geophysics and field archaeology projects across the UK and EU. The role is based in Cleckheaton and involves tender preparation and client liaison.

You will manage field and office projects, advise clients, and develop new business while guiding teams to deliver to programme and budget. Hybrid working is available within a nationally active team.

Qualifications

  • Detailed experience and understanding of UK commercial archaeology and planning legislation.
  • Experience in the delivery of archaeological geophysics projects.
  • Ability to work in collaboration with other construction professionals to deliver combined civils/archaeological projects.
  • Advise on planning policies.
  • Proficient in use and understanding of MS Office suite. Emerging skills in designing spreadsheets.
  • A relevant degree, or proven experience.
  • Full, valid driving licence and willingness to travel.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safe working practices for typical archaeological geophysics projects.
  • Good time and pressure management skills, ability to use your own initiative within the company structure.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Description

Locations Based in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire; Boxworth, Cambridgeshire; Hereford, Herefordshire; or Silsoe, Bedfordshire.

Contract Type: Permanent

Following the creation of a new Geophysics and Exploration section, Headland is expanding its geophysical survey team and recruiting experienced staff to meet its increasing project portfolio.

The Role

We are looking for a candidate who is self driven with a positive outlook and good understanding of Archaeological Geophysics and British Archaeology. You will have experience of managing commercial geophysical and/or field archaeology projects in Britain, will be able to sell our services to new clients and help develop existing commercial relationships. You will be a good team worker who can promote new ideas and new ways of working, and motivate your teams to deliver projects to programme and to budget.

The position will involve preparation of tenders and the running of both field and office‑based projects. You will be expected to use your archaeological and geophysical experience to advise clients and to support colleagues as projects progress.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential Key Skills
