Role Overview:
You will be part of an integrated Site Assessment (survey acquisition) and Ground Engineering team, providing site survey and developing fit-for-purpose ground models and ground-engineering solutions for bid assessment through design, construction, and operation.
What you will do:
- Provide geohazards expertise across bp’s offshore wind portfolio throughout the project lifecycle, including:
- Geohazard survey and consultancy scoping and technical oversight in survey and consultancy execution
- Ground modelling and geohazard management for permanent and temporary works
- Identify, assess, and mitigate geohazards (e.g., seismicity, shallow gas, slope instability) and obstructions (challenging seafloor conditions, debris, UXO) at relevant depths (e.g., cable or foundation), during site investigation and project design and execution.
- Collaborate within an integrated geoscience team to build fit-for-purpose ground models for wind farm engineering.
- Quantify and communicate ground engineering risks to ensure they are understood and managed effectively.
- Work with safety, consent, and procurement teams to ensure robust execution of works.
- Coordinate with foundation, transmission engineering, and construction disciplines for safe delivery of site investigations and infrastructure.
- Ensure safe, cost-effective design and integrity management throughout asset life, in line with bp and industry standards.
- Maintain relationships with third-party suppliers, contractors, and partners.
- Contribute to technology development and share knowledge within the geohazards and geophysics communities.
What you will have:
- Degree in Geoscience or Geo-Engineering.
- Appropriate professional accreditation.
- Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards.
- Project management experience in site investigation and ground engineering activities.
- Expertise in planning and conducting site investigations, characterisation, and ground model development.
- Proficiency in geophysical survey of the seafloor, data processing, and interpretation.
- Skills in data integration with geological and geotechnical information.
- Experience in managing geohazard and ground risks.
- Knowledge of offshore wind ground engineering activities related to design, analysis, and installation.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively with distributed teams across time zones.
- Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams with minimal supervision.
- Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills, comfortable reporting to senior management.
Desirable:
- Masters or PhD in a relevant discipline.
- Membership in relevant industry panels or standards organizations (e.g., SUT, OGP, ISO).
- Understanding of soil and rock geophysics.
- Experience with geohazard software (e.g., IHS Kingdom, Petrel).
- Experience with cone penetration tests, down-hole geophysical logging, machine learning in geo-data, foundation design, transmission systems, energy yield, and metocean assessment.
- Coding or scripting skills (e.g., Matlab, Python).
- Experience working remotely.
- Experience in coaching and mentoring junior team members.
