Job Description

Responsible to: Subject Leader/Head of Faculty

Job Purpose: Carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require and in accordance with the School’s policies and ethos under the direction of the Head. Teach students based on national curriculum guidelines within Geography at Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level.

Responsibilities
  • Plan appropriately to meet the needs of all pupils, including those identified with an ALN profile, through differentiation of tasks as appropriate.
  • Lead and manage any additional support within the classroom ensuring the appropriate deployment of colleagues within the room.
  • Plan for, organise and maintain a stimulating classroom learning environment appropriate to the needs, age and development of the pupils, which facilitates learning and academic enthusiasm for Geography.
  • Promote the agreed school ethos, attitudes and values in all aspects of work with pupils, colleagues, support staff, parents/carers and visitors.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the curriculum relevant ALN issues through INSET, wider professional development and collaboration with the ALNCo.
  • Support the leadership of Geography as directed by the Subject Lead and/or Head of Faculty.
  • Assist in the preparation of a subject development plan for the area in consultation with departmental colleagues and the Head of Faculty.
  • Work with colleagues to identify clear teaching objectives, content, lesson structures and sequences appropriate to the subject matter and pupils being taught.
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluating planning, quality of teaching and pupil progression in the curriculum area.
  • Participate in and support the performance management policy.
  • Assessment, recording and reporting.
  • To complete Grade Reviews according to the School assessment policy across the academic year as directed by the Deputy Head (Academic).
  • Engage in and maintain a dialogue with parents/carers, therapists and other professionals about teaching and learning and progress of pupils in allocated classes.
  • Assess pupil achievement through both formative and summative assessment and use this data to plan for future learning. Measure progress and provide progress and subject reports as required.
  • To set and mark examinations/tests/coursework as required by the Subject Leader.
Additional Responsibilities
  • All teachers have additional pastoral, sporting and/or extracurricular responsibilities.
