Job summary

GSL Education Kent is recruiting a Geography Mentor to support a Medway secondary school. The role focuses on supervising lessons, helping pupils access the work, and maintaining engaging, well-managed classrooms.

The ideal candidate will have a strong Geography background, enjoy working with young people, and be able to follow teacher instructions while prioritising safeguarding and pupil safety.

Qualifications

• Geography knowledge demonstrated by academic or professional background.
• Experience engaging with secondary-aged pupils and maintaining order.
• Understanding of safeguarding requirements and child protection procedures.
• Ability to follow prepared lesson instructions and adapt as needed.
• Strong communication with staff and ability to support teaching teams.

About the role

GSL Education Kent are currently recruiting a Geography Mentor for a well-established secondary school in Medway. This role would be particularly suited to a graduate or education professional with a strong Geography background who enjoys working with young people and can confidently maintain a productive classroom environment.

As a Georgraphy Mentor, you will supervise lessons using resources provided by teaching staff, ensuring pupils understand the task, remain engaged and continue with their learning.

Geography Mentor role

The successful Geography Mentor will work across different subjects, with a particular opportunity to support Geography lessons. You will not be expected to deliver new subject content; instead, you will ensure pupils can access and complete the work provided by their teacher.

We are looking for a Geography Mentor who has a genuine interest in Geography and can bring confidence, organisation and positive energy to the classroom.

The successful candidate will:

• Have a strong academic or professional background in Geography
• Be confident working with secondary-aged pupils
• Demonstrate effective classroom and behaviour management
• Be able to follow prepared lesson instructions accurately
• Encourage pupils to remain focused and complete their work
• Communicate effectively with teaching staff and contribute to a positive school environment

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
