Job description
Overview

Applications are invited for a fixed term (17 months) full time GeoBus Education Assistant in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences (SEES). GeoBus is a free educational outreach project developed and run by the School of Earth & Environmental Sciences, active since 2012. Its aims are to support Earth and Environmental Science teaching in Secondary and Primary schools across Scotland through in-school workshops, educational resources, teacher career long professional learning (CLPL) courses, and by providing a bridge between industry, HEIs, Research Councils and schools, and to highlight career opportunities in STEM. GeoBus also participates in its sister educational programme ‘GeoBus Without Borders’ to deliver its programme internationally.

Responsibilities
  • Provide support to the GeoBus Education Coordinator in delivering GeoBus activities.
  • Coordinate and manage all social media to broadcast GeoBus activities.
  • Assist with in-classroom workshops and teacher CLPL delivery.
  • Contribute to outreach activities and the development of educational resources as required.
  • Support safeguarding requirements and related administrative tasks as needed.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Experience with STEM public engagement and/or teaching is essential.
  • Effective communication with a wide range of audiences in various delivery settings.
  • Experience with secondary or primary level teaching is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Earth and environmental science topics.
  • Willingness to become, or be, a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme for regulated work with children; assistance in obtaining membership will be provided.
