We have a great opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Contaminated Land / Environmental Consultant / Hydrogeologist to join our Sustainable Land and Resource Management Practice in our Birmingham office.

The Sustainable Land and Resource Management Practice is a well-established, award-winning, multi-disciplinary environmental and engineering practice with an extensive portfolio of regeneration and development projects and a highly skilled team, notably with staff winning various Brownfield Briefing awards over the past years.

The successful candidate will be an important part of an innovative and technically excellent team helping deliver projects to a number of the largest UK-based and international infrastructure projects, including nuclear new-build. AtkinsRéalis contaminated land specialists work on land contamination, hydrogeology, and brownfield redevelopment projects, providing innovative solutions to engineering challenges. The work involves local and national projects across markets such as Cities, Transportation, and Energy Infrastructure, in regions including the South West, Wales, Midlands, the UK, and internationally.

Responsibilities:

  • Organise, collate, and assess desk-based information for Phase 1 Desk Studies, leading digital initiatives and automation efforts.
  • Manage digital data, develop conceptual site models, and undertake risk assessments for human health and water environments.
  • Prepare and deliver factual and interpretative reports.
  • Design Phase 2 site investigations, supervise environmental/geo-environmental investigations, and monitor site activities including soil sampling and ground gas/vapour/leachate/groundwater/surface water sampling, supporting contractor management and liaison.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety policies, prepare H&S plans for site investigations, and manage health and safety on-site.
  • Prepare relevant Environmental Impact Assessment chapters.
  • Maintain and develop personal competence and CPD, supported by the business.
  • Manage own work, supporting senior management to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to client expectations.

Requirements:

  • Higher education qualification in a relevant engineering or science subject (e.g., geology, geography, hydrogeology, chemistry, earth sciences, environmental science).
  • Understanding of land contamination and brownfield issues, relevant codes of practice, and industry standards.
  • Willingness to travel and undertake site work across the UK.
  • Experience with geospatial data (GIS) using software such as QGIS and/or ArcGIS.
  • Experience managing large project data, especially GIS and AGS data.
  • Experience supervising site investigations, including trial pitting, drilling, and environmental sampling.
