Job description

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Geo-environmental Consultant with established industry experience to join our Southampton-based Infrastructure & Environment team. This is an excellent opportunity for a Geo-environmental Consultant looking to further develop their technical expertise, take greater ownership of projects and build their experience across contaminated land, ground investigation and environmental assessment. Our team provides contaminated land and ground engineering services primarily to the infrastructure and buildings sectors. We work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality, commercially focused and value-driven solutions that support the planning, construction and redevelopment of sites across the Southeast. You will join a collaborative and growing team, working across a diverse range of projects and gaining exposure to both site-based investigation and technical consultancy work.

About The Role

As a Geo-environmental Consultant, you will support the delivery of contaminated land and geotechnical projects through a combination of technical reporting, data interpretation, project coordination and fieldwork.

Your Responsibilities Will Include
  • Preparing clear, accurate and well-structured technical reports, including desk studies, factual reports, interpretive reports and contributions to Ground Investigation Reports.
  • Taking increasing ownership of technical report preparation and ensuring outputs are delivered to a high technical standard.
  • Reviewing and interpreting field and laboratory data to identify key ground and environmental risks.
  • Supporting the planning, coordination and delivery of ground investigations.
  • Supervising ground investigation and monitoring works, including drilling, trial pitting, well construction and in-situ testing.
  • Undertaking groundwater sampling, water level monitoring and ground gas monitoring.
  • Coordinating with subcontractors and supporting the management of site-based activities.
  • Liaising with clients, project managers and wider multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Supporting the delivery of contaminated land and geo-environmental assessments.
  • Identifying potential ground-related risks and communicating findings and recommendations clearly.
  • Supporting project planning, coordination and delivery to agreed programmes and budgets.
  • Ensuring site investigations and project activities are undertaken in accordance with relevant health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Working collaboratively with senior colleagues while developing your ability to take independent responsibility for project tasks and deliverables.
  • Contributing to the wider team through knowledge sharing and supporting colleagues where appropriate.
  • The role will provide a good balance of office-based technical consultancy and site-based ground investigation, giving you the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills and experience.
Your Impact

You will play an important role in helping our clients understand and manage contaminated land and ground-related risks, providing clear technical advice that supports the successful delivery of infrastructure and development projects. Your work will contribute across the project lifecycle, from desk study and ground investigation through to data interpretation, reporting and assessment, helping to provide practical and commercially focused solutions. As your experience develops, you will have increasing opportunities to take ownership of projects and work packages, develop client relationships and progress your technical and professional career.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Relevant post-graduate experience within the geo-environmental industry, ideally with experience across contaminated land and/or geotechnical projects.
  • Experience working within a contractor or consultancy environment.
  • Practical experience of ground investigation supervision and subsequent technical reporting.
  • Good working knowledge of relevant and up-to-date British Standards, industry guidance and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience supervising, coordinating and reporting on geo-environmental assignments, with support from senior colleagues where required.
  • Experience undertaking ground gas and groundwater monitoring, including groundwater sampling and water level monitoring.
  • Experience liaising with subcontractors and clients to support successful project delivery.
  • Strong technical report writing skills, including desk studies, factual reports, interpretive reports and clear presentation of ground investigation data.
  • The ability to interpret field and laboratory data, identify key ground-related risks and communicate findings clearly.
  • A strong commitment to health, safety, wellbeing and environmental protection, particularly during ground investigation activities.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive and independent approach, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A self-motivated and enthusiastic approach to your work.
  • A desire to work towards chartered status with a relevant professional body.

  • SSSTS, IOSH or equivalent site supervisor qualification.
  • First Aid training.
