Job description

RZSS - Edinburgh Zoo

Location: Scotland

Salary: Salary Range £28,037 - £28,738 per annum

The role

To undertake genetic and genomic work, preparing and analysing DNA, and contributing to the day-to-day running of the RZSS WildGenes laboratory facility. As a member of the Conservation department, the post holder will contribute to the development of RZSS in achieving its Mission and Aims.

This role is a 3-month fixed-term contract with working hours of 37.5 hours per week.

Responsibilities include:
  • Performing wet-lab molecular genetic techniques and providing data to the WildGenes team.
  • DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and genomic library preparation.
  • Working within defined procedures with periodic supervision.
Candidate requirements:
  • A BSc degree in a biological discipline or equivalent qualifications/experience.
  • Experience working in a molecular laboratory.
  • Experience with DNA extraction.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a controlled, consistent manner.
  • Ability to follow complex molecular biology protocols.
  • Effective communication skills via email, Teams, phone, and face-to-face.
  • Ability to work independently with good organisational and planning skills.
