Job summary

University of Leicester is seeking a Research Assistant to join the School of Biological and Biomedical Sciences, Division of Microbiology and Infection. You will perform molecular cloning, RNA isolation and RNA sequencing prep, and run transcriptional reporter assays while establishing a mini-bioreactor system.

You will analyse data, troubleshoot methods, and maintain records. Collaboration with the team and contribution to reports are essential.

Qualifications

• You will hold an MSc in Microbiology or a related discipline.
• Experience with bacterial genetics, including genetic manipulation and cloning.
• Experience with Staphylococcus aureus and transposon mutant libraries.
• Ability to design and interpret in vitro assays and apply statistics.

Responsibilities

• Support genetics and genomics components of the project in the lab.
• Perform molecular cloning, RNA isolation and preparation for RNA sequencing.
• Establish a mini-bioreactor system and conduct transcriptional reporter assays.
• Analyse experimental data and troubleshoot laboratory methods.
• Train students and new laboratory members; maintain records.
