The Francis Crick Institute in London is seeking a Laboratory Research Scientist to join the Johnson Lab on a fixed-term (3 years) basis. The role involves hands-on molecular biology and microbiology work, including strain construction, growth assays and high-throughput screens.

You will prepare sequencing libraries, analyse data, and contribute to protocol development. A strong background in PCR, cloning, DNA extraction and handling bacterial pathogens is essential, with excellent

Competenze

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in molecular biology
• Hands-on molecular biology techniques such as PCR, cloning and DNA extraction with microbial work
• Experience with next-generation sequencing and high-throughput experiments
• Experience handling bacterial pathogens under containment
• Strong organization, record-keeping and attention to detail
• Ability to follow and improve experimental protocols independently

Mansioni

• Perform molecular biology and microbiology experiments, including strain construction and growth assays
• Support high-throughput and phenotypic screening experiments
• Prepare sequencing libraries and screening plates
• Process, quality-check and analyse experimental data
• Contribute to method development, troubleshooting and laboratory protocols
• Maintain accurate experimental records and keep the laboratory organized
• Work closely with scientists across the lab, Crick technology, platforms and external collaborators
