Job description

We are seeking an individual to join our growing service team supporting the operational delivery of diagnostic tests such as whole genome sequencing (WGS) across the Eastern regions. The Genomic Practitioner will manage tasks in a timely, professional manner to ensure patients are offered diagnostic genetic testing.

Individuals who are dynamic, creative, flexible, and may be considering a career in genetic counselling, clinical research, or project delivery may find this opportunity provides a key stepping stone to their career development. Applicants from a range of backgrounds and experiences are welcomed.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Facilitating patient access to the WGS service, including arranging blood samples and coordinating return of relevant forms.
  2. Supporting the delivery of Clinical Genetics Services to patients and families.
  3. Contributing to the 100,000 Genomes Project, managing requests for patient withdrawal, and re-consenting patients who have turned 16 since joining the project.
  4. Supporting the mainstreaming of genomic medicine by working with colleagues in other clinical specialties and supporting staff training.
  5. Creating, developing, and cataloguing patient information resources.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in genomics and some prior knowledge, with full training provided. Support will be available from clinical leadership within Clinical Genetics.
