Job description

Proposed interview date - Wednesday 04/06

The post holder will be responsible for the ongoing development of high-standard religious, pastoral, and spiritual care for patients, their relatives, staff, and visitors within the OUH NHS Foundation Trust, regardless of faith or cultural background.

The post holder will collaborate with colleagues and the Lead Chaplain to provide chaplaincy services across the Trust. This role may require working at any of the four hospital sites and two hospices within the Trust. The duties include participation in an on-call rota (pro-rata) to ensure continuous service coverage during periods of leave.

We actively encourage applications from all faith and belief groups.

The Chaplaincy Team comprises members from various denominations and faith communities. We are deeply committed to the spiritual and pastoral wellbeing of everyone accessing our hospitals and hospices, as well as our staff. We support each other through laughter and tears.

  • To be responsible to the Lead Chaplain for the daily provision and development of pastoral, religious, and spiritual care for patients, staff, and visitors, including confidentially recording activities in the chaplaincy data system.
  • To work collaboratively with other team members, attending regular meetings and contributing to the development of the chaplaincy service across the Trust.
  • To administer appropriate rites and ceremonies consistent with patients' faith or belief and aligned with the practices of the post-holder’s religious community.
  • To provide sacramental and pastoral support for dying patients and their families, and respond to the needs of the bereaved when requested.
  • To participate fully in the 24-hour chaplaincy on-call service, with flexibility in working hours due to the irregular nature of the work.
  • To support staff following complex and demanding clinical situations.
  • To collaborate with allied professionals to develop learning and working practices.
  • To commit to personal professional and spiritual growth and development.
