Job summary

An established industry player is seeking a skilled Generator Engineer to join their Service Department. This role involves on-site servicing, repairing, and overhauling diesel engines for both company and customer-generated sets. The ideal candidate will bring at least five years of experience in the diesel generator field, along with a City & Guilds or NVQ in engineering. You'll be part of a dynamic team, participating in a 24/7 call-out rota and engaging in various responsibilities from fault diagnosis to generator installation. Job description

Additional Generator Engineer

Our Service Department is seeking an experienced Generator Engineer. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with industrial diesel engines. The primary responsibilities include servicing, repairing, and overhauling diesel engines on our own and customer-generated sets.

Responsibilities:
  1. On-site servicing of customer diesel generating sets across the UK.
  2. Fault diagnosis, rectification, and testing of equipment.
  3. Performing temporary repairs to ensure operational continuity while sourcing parts.
  4. Participation in a 24/7 call-out rota, with occasional work away from home depending on site locations.
  5. Involvement in generator installation, fabrication work, and UPS battery build installations as needed.
Additional Duties:
  • Call Out Rota – approximately 1 week in 8.
  • Generator servicing and maintenance at customer sites.
  • Generator load testing and fault finding.
  • Basic electrical repairs on generators.
  • Attendance at factory training courses is mandatory.
Experience & Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the diesel generator field.
  • City & Guilds / NVQ in engineering.
  • Knowledge of various manufacturer’s equipment.
  • Manufacturer training courses are advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid clean driving license.
Preferred Skills:
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship.
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, PLC programming).
  • Experience with UPS systems.
  • Ability to multitask effectively.
