Job Description

We currently have a great opportunity for you to join our waste treatment team as a Generator Field Service Engineer. As a successful candidate, your role will be to maintain, diagnose, repair, and optimize the performance of a fleet of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) spark ignition biogas engines located across various Thames Water sites.

Due to the nature of this role involving travel within the Thames Water area, the ideal candidate can be based anywhere in the Thames Valley and London area.

What you’ll be doing as a Generator Field Service Engineer
  • Carry out planned and unplanned maintenance of the CHP spark ignition generators within a geographical region.
  • Collaborate with current CHP support staff and suppliers to ensure all maintenance is performed safely, with minimal downtime, and within budget.
  • Complete service records and reports accurately and promptly.
  • Identify parts required for orders, lubricants, and waste management.
  • Demonstrate a zero-compromise attitude towards health, safety, and well-being in all work aspects.
  • Ensure excellent customer service.
  • Support team members with skills from product training.

Base location options include sites in Thames Valley, Home Counties, and London. The role is 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with standby rota duties paid additionally. Overtime at time and a half or double rates is available.

What you should bring to the role
  • In-depth knowledge of operation and maintenance of internal combustion engines.
  • Ability to perform thorough diagnostics on engines, generators, and related systems.
  • Proficiency in operating and optimizing assets using engine/generator controls such as ComAp, DIA.NE, and TEM Evo.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team to high standards.
  • NVQ/C&G or manufacturer’s qualification in mechanical engineering preferred.
  • Electrical qualification is advantageous but not essential.
  • Proven hands-on experience with internal combustion engines and related systems.
  • Experience with natural, bio, or AD gas engines is desirable but not essential.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Full UK driving license.
