Job summary

A medical imaging provider in Portsmouth is seeking an experienced General Sonographer to perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including abdominal and gynaecological scans. You will document findings, maintain equipment, and support patient care in a collaborative environment. Strong knowledge of ultrasound protocols and HCPC registration are required.

Qualifications

Job description

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated General Sonographer to join our imaging team in Portsmouth. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations, supporting accurate diagnosis and patient care across multiple clinical areas.

You will work closely with radiologists, consultants, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality imaging services while delivering a compassionate patient experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform general ultrasound examinations, including:

    • Abdominal imaging

    • Gynaecological and early pregnancy scans

    • Small parts imaging (e.g., thyroid, testes, soft tissue)

    • Musculoskeletal scans (where competent)

    • Obstetric imaging (if applicable)

  • Accurately document and report findings to the clinical team, highlighting any urgent results.

  • Provide clear explanations and reassurance to patients during procedures.

  • Maintain and calibrate ultrasound equipment to ensure quality and safety standards.

  • Participate in audits, clinical governance, and service improvement initiatives.

  • Support the training and mentorship of junior staff and students where applicable.

Qualifications & Experience
  • HCPC registration (or eligibility).

  • Minimum 12 months’ experience in general sonography preferred.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
