Job Description

We are pleased to offer a fixed 12-month contract, with the possibility of a permanent position upon completion of the initial term.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, and friendly individual to join our team. Newly Qualified doctors are welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job
  • Manage a patient caseload and address a wide range of health needs, ensuring the highest standards of care for both registered and temporary patients.
  • Undertake daily telephone, digital, and face-to-face consultations with acutely unwell patients requiring same-day care, in accordance with the practice rota.
  • Check and sign repeat prescriptions; prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary whenever clinically appropriate.
  • Admit or discharge patients from the caseload and refer to other care providers as needed.
  • Undertake home visits when required.
  • Participate and support practice meetings.
  • Undertake all normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within Primary Care.

Ystradgynlais Group Practice offers an opportunity to join our practice based across three sites: Pengorof, Ystalyfera, and Abercrave. Our team includes 9 Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, pharmacists, advanced care nurses, practice nurses, HCAs, phlebotomy services, a Cluster Pharmacy Team, and Physiotherapists.

We are a GP training practice, offering many enhanced services and hosting medical and nurse students. We pride ourselves on being a friendly and supportive team, serving a patient list of 12,500.

Job responsibilities
  • Training Practice: Support GP trainees, F1 doctors, and medical and nursing students.
  • Enhanced services: Provide joint injections, minor surgery, care in care homes, chronic disease management, and more.
  • Flexible consultations: Conduct a mix of telephone and face-to-face appointments.

Use of EMIS System, WCCG, GPTR.

Additional responsibilities
  • Handle telephone consultations, surgery queries, home visits, review test results, and complete paperwork.
  • Record clear consultation notes to standard.
  • Issue computer-generated repeat and acute prescriptions.
  • Prescribe according to the practice formulary when appropriate.
  • Provide counseling and health education.
  • Manage patient admissions and discharges and refer as needed.
  • Perform all duties typical of a GP within primary care.
Person Specification
Experience
  • Newly Qualified Doctors are welcome to apply.
Qualifications
  • Registration with GMC.
  • Fully qualified GP eligible to work in NHS General Practice.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Clear DBS report.
  • Experience with EMIS, GPTR, WCCG, AccRx.
