Westfield Medical Centre seeks a General Practitioner for fixed-term maternity cover. You will provide patient care, manage health needs, and deliver high-quality medical services. Join a friendly, supportive practice and make a difference in patient health in Newport.
The General Practitioner will need to prioritise and triage the needs of patients accordingly making any necessary referrals for investigations in the appropriate manner.
The successful candidate will be responsible for attending to patients who wish to be seen by a health care professional; diagnosing and treating patients presenting, seeing and advising people in respect of their continuing medical needs. Both routine and same day appointments as standard, also house visits as and when required.

Job Summary
To provide general medical services , providing services for registered patients.
To provide high quality primary care services to the practice population as required by the Group in line with approved protocols and evidence based medical practice and guidelines.
To manage patients, dealing with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, always ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.
To undertake all duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care
Participate in on call rota and holiday cover.
Duties and Responsibilities Clinical:
Provide a full range of medical services as defined in the core GMS contract and additional and enhanced services where appropriate.
Undertake a variety of duties (as agreed) including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with all queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion to ensure patient safety is not compromised.
Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
Develop care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols. Provide counselling and health education where appropriate.
Refer patients to other care providers as appropriate.
Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes in line with Good Medical Practice.
Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).
Prescribe in accordance with the local PCN prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
Undertake all duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
On call duties.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
