GP Practice in Wales in Bridgend is recruiting a Salaried General Practitioner to join a forward‑facing team. The post covers a varied workload with face-to-face and telephone consultations, plus management of acute and long‑term conditions and prescribing within the formulary.

We offer 6 weeks annual leave pro rata plus 2 weeks study leave. The practice serves 18,931 patients, uses EMIS, and supports trainees and students.

Qualifications

• GMC registered and eligible to practice in the UK.
• Experience in general practice considered but new qualifiers welcomed.
• Willingness to participate in training and teaching activities.

Responsibilities

• Deliver face-to-face and telephone consultations as part of a general practice

Job Title: Salaried General Practitioner

Reports to: The Partners (Clinically) The Practice Manager (Administratively)

The role will include a varied general practice workload, including face to face and telephone consultations, management of acute and long term conditions, prescribing and clinical administration.

We are a large forward-thinking long established Practice situated in expanded premises in Bridgend town centre. Close to the coast and with very easy access to the M4 corridor.

Our Practice population is 18931 and we have a mixed patient demographic.

We are very proud of our friendly, hardworking team, which includes 9 GP Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, a team of Practice Pharmacists managed by our Senior Pharmacist and a Practice Nurse team led by our Nurse Manager, including Nurse Practitioners, Health Care Assistants and Phlebotomists. Our Clinical teams receive excellent support from our ancillary staff.

We are a well-regarded training Practice and have several GP Registrars. We also provide undergraduate teaching to years 1 and 2 medical students and support student nurses and pharmacists. We are members of the Bridgend East Network Cluster and Pen y Bont Health Federation, the first federated GP Cluster in Wales. We use EMIS computer system. Job responsibilities

Job summary: The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Clinical responsibilities

• In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
• Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
• Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
• Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
• In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
• Providing counselling and health education
• Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
• Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
• Collecting data for audit purposes
• Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
• Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
• Undertaking hot review with GP Trainee
• In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
