We have an exciting opportunity for a General Practitioner to join our healthcare team at HMP Featherstone, a category C Prison located in Staffordshire. The site supports around 780 male patients aged 21 plus. Within this role, you would be delivering care for substance misuse, long-term conditions, and acute needs of these patients. You will be working closely with the full multidisciplinary team, including 1 additional GP and 1 bank GP. Applicants with experience working with substance misuse patients would be welcomed for this role, as you would need to attend safer prescribing meetings.

Hours

This role is 8 hours/2 sessions per week across 2 days:

  1. Wednesday: 5 hours AM or PM
  2. Friday: 3 hours AM

Salary

This is a part-time role; you’ll receive an annual salary between £124,590 and £130,820 per annum FTE - depending on experience.

Our General Practitioners are extremely valued and respected members of the Prison Healthcare community. As a General Practitioner, your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Deliver first-class healthcare to a diverse group of patients, providing an opportunity to further develop your knowledge in areas you wouldn’t usually experience within a practice or even A&E environment.
  • Provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patient requirements and make timely decisions regarding future management.
  • Provide a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team at site, as well as the patients you work with, having active involvement in clinical governance and effectiveness activities.

Qualifications required:

  • MBChB or MBBS Inclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List
  • Evidence of engagement with annual appraisal
  • Experience working as a General Practitioner in community general practice
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Ability to work with patients with a history of substance misuse
  • RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse 1 and 2, or prepared to undertake these qualifications
