We are seeking a dedicated and professional GP to join our friendly, innovative, and expanding Practice, which currently supports 7,200 registered patients. You will manage a varied and rewarding clinical caseload within a supportive environment, working alongside a multi-skilled team of GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, a Clinical Pharmacist, and Healthcare Assistants.
This is ideally a 4-session (2-day) role, with work on Mondays and Fridays preferred, although we are happy to discuss alternative working patterns to accommodate the right candidate.
Initially for a fixed term of 6 months (this may extend).
Main duties of the job
As part of the agreed practice rota, the post-holder will undertake a wide range of clinical and administrative duties, including:
- Conducting surgery, telephone, and video consultations.
- Visiting patients at home when clinically indicated, including urgent visits during surgery hours.
- Assessing and managing patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed conditions.
- Screening for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
- Developing care plans in consultation with patients, aligned with disease management protocols.
- Providing health education, counselling, and making appropriate referrals.
- Managing prescriptions in line with practice guidelines.
- Recording accurate, contemporaneous clinical notes.
- Participating in extended hours services and a fair share of home visits.
- Contributing to audits, quality improvement initiatives, and the review of significant events and patient feedback.
- Engaging in the Duty Doctor rota (with ANP support).
- Complying with all GMC regulations, practice policies, and professional codes of conduct.
- Collaborating effectively with the wider healthcare team and external agencies to ensure continuity of care.

Job responsibilities
Deliver high-quality Personal Medical Services to patients in both surgery and home settings.
- Respond to medical issues presented by patients on the practice list, including history taking, examination, diagnosis, investigation, treatment, referral where appropriate, and accurate documentation with READ coding in the GP computer system (EMIS).
- Provide health promotion, preventative care, and lifestyle advice within a primary care context.
- Maintain clinical records in line with the electronic patient record system.
- Perform two surgeries daily (each 2.53 hours) using a mix of face-to-face, video, and telephone consultations.
- Be available between core hours of 08:00-18:30.
- Triage and undertake home visits as required.
- Sign prescriptions and manage patient/practice correspondence promptly.
- Participate in the Duty Doctor rota, and provide emergency cover for absent colleagues when necessary.
- Support achievement of practice targets, including QOF, Enhanced Services, and other contractual requirements.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Qualified GP.
- MRCGP.
- Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent (JCPTGP).
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).
- Additional clinical qualifications or specialist training relevant to primary care.
Experience
- Newly qualified GP (within 2 years of qualification).
- Not previously been substantively employed at a GP practice.
- Experience working in a primary care environment.
- Evidence of continued professional development.
- Experience of QOF.
- General understanding of the primary care contract.
