Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a General Practitioner to join our healthcare team at HMP Rye Hill. HMP Rye Hill is a category B Prison located in Barby, Northamptonshire. The site currently houses around 650 patients, with approximately 50% over 50 years of age. In this role, you will work as part of an established team, closely collaborating with another GP who also serves as a regional medical lead.

Hours: Tuesday and Friday, 8.30am-4.30pm

Salary: This position is part-time, with an annual salary up to £125,000 per annum FTE, depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

Our General Practitioners are valued members of the Prison Healthcare community. Your responsibilities will include:

• Delivering high-quality healthcare to a diverse patient group, with opportunities to develop skills in areas beyond typical general practice, including A&E environments.
• Providing clinical assessments, diagnoses, and making timely management decisions.
• Offering expert support to other healthcare team members and participating in clinical governance activities.

Qualifications required

• MBChB or MBBS
• GMC registration and inclusion on the GP Performers List
• Evidence of annual appraisal engagement
• Experience in community general practice and working with patients with substance misuse issues
• CPD evidence and willingness to undertake RCGP Substance Misuse Certificates 1 and 2
